Franciscan Health Breast Care Center in Michigan City will receive additional support for its breast cancer patients following a significant contribution from the Michigan City United States Bowling Congress Bowling Association. The association raised $17,251 during the February Bowl for the Cure event held at Olympia Lanes II in Michigan City. This amount marks a record for the annual fundraiser.
Since 2008, the organization has contributed over $134,500 to Franciscan Health Michigan City. These funds are directed through the Franciscan Health Foundation's Michigan City Mammography Department/Breast Cancer Fund to aid local breast cancer patients.
Nick Loxas, owner of Olympia Lanes II, provided the venue for this year's event at the request of Cheryl Hale, an employee who chairs the Bowl for the Cure committee. Donations help provide educational materials, comfort bags, gas cards, grocery cards, and assistance with utility bills for patients in need.
Debbie Tatum, Director of Development at Franciscan Health Foundation, expressed gratitude: "Our Michigan City Bowl for the Cure friends work tirelessly to host this event each February, both in honor of those who have passed and to help those who continue to fight breast cancer in our area," she said. "We are so thankful for the committee's and the community's ongoing support."
Contributions to support these efforts can be made online or by contacting Debbie Tatum directly.
