Franciscan Health Orthopedic Hospital Carmel has received a 5-Star Rating from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS). This survey, conducted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is the first of its kind to provide a national, standardized, and publicly reported analysis of patients' perspectives on their hospital care.

The HCAHPS survey, also known as the CAHPS Hospital Survey, collects data to measure patient perceptions of their hospital experience. “We are very proud of our team at Franciscan Health Orthopedic Hospital Carmel for achieving a five-star HCAHPS rating,” stated Charlie Randolph, administrative director of operations for Franciscan Health Central Indiana. He added that the rating, based on patient surveys, reflects the hospital's commitment to providing the best possible care.

Before the HCAHPS survey, hospitals collected patient satisfaction data primarily for internal purposes, without a national standard for public reporting. HCAHPS aims to allow objective comparisons across hospitals, create incentives for improved care quality, and enhance healthcare accountability through transparency in public reporting.

In support of these aims, CMS and the HCAHPS Project Team have worked to ensure the survey's credibility, usefulness, and practicality.

Franciscan Health Orthopedic Hospital Carmel offers comprehensive treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, utilizing advanced surgical technology and a new facility to provide high-quality orthopedic care.
