Students at Joy Elementary School in Michigan City, Indiana, participated in a project to support new parents and newborns at the Franciscan Health Michigan City Family Birth Center. This initiative was part of their Better World Day observance.

The students collected baby books, toys, blankets, and reusable bags. They decorated paper bags with hand-drawn pictures and inspirational phrases to present these items. The presentation took place during an all-school assembly.

Asia' Savado, an instructional coach at Joy Elementary School, expressed gratitude: "These bags were created and designed with love by our students and we thank you for accepting our Better World Day project."

Better World Day is an annual event sponsored by EL Education. It encourages students to engage in meaningful work that positively impacts their communities. For this project, the theme "Spread Joy with Literacy" was developed by the students who also managed the collections.

Sister M. Petra Nielsen from Franciscan Health's Northern Indiana division thanked the students: "I'm looking at the bags and everything that you collected for the babies and the new moms that are coming to the hospital and this is amazing," she said. She added that the donations would bring joy to new families.
