A donation of $15,000 from the Friends of St. Clare is set to assist 100 families experiencing food insecurity during the holiday season in Crown Point, Indiana. The funds were collected through contributions from local business leaders and will be used to provide 100 $150 gift cards for Strack & Van Til to those served by the Franciscan Health Fresh Start Market and Prenatal Assistance Program.

Rick Peltier, Executive Director of the Franciscan Health Foundation, expressed his appreciation: "The Friends of St. Clare continue to amaze me with their generosity and philanthropic hearts." He acknowledged their ongoing commitment to supporting patients at the St. Clare facility over several years.

The Friends of St. Clare consists of five anonymous organizers who have been working since 2009 to bolster the Franciscan Health Foundation's Food Insecurity Program. Their efforts began with a single donation of six frozen turkeys and have grown significantly over time, aided by local business support.

This year, the founder's grandchildren also contributed by hosting a lemonade stand that added $150 to the fundraising effort.

The Fresh Start Market provides free shopping for those in need while addressing food insecurity through education and nutrition guidance. Additional information on receiving assistance can be obtained by contacting the Franciscan Health Community Health Improvement office at 219-407-6948.

The Prenatal Assistance Program has been offering services since 2002, including pregnancy education and counseling along with access to public assistance programs. It also operates a Diaper Pantry supplying essential items like diapers and wipes to eligible families in Lake County.

Interested parties can contact 1-877-PRE-NATL for more details about registration and appointments for these services.

Contributions supporting initiatives like the Fresh Start Markets and Diaper Pantry are managed by donations made online through the Franciscan Health Foundation of Northern Indiana. Further inquiries can be directed to 219-661-3401.
