Registration for the 2025 General Synod of the United Church of Christ is now open. The event will take place from July 11 to July 15, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. It offers a platform for attendees within the United Church of Christ to engage in worship, fellowship, and set priorities for ministry.
The cost for full attendance is $325 for visitors, delegates, youth leaders, and exhibitors. A variety of optional dining events are available throughout the four-day gathering. Attendees can also participate in workshops, plenary sessions, worship services, a youth program, and explore an exhibit space.
Workshop proposals are currently being accepted. These one-hour sessions aim to equip local churches in living out their mission to build a just world. Workshops will be held on Sunday, July 13. Priority topics include spirituality and the church, leadership development, climate change, strengthening the church, and decolonizing practices. Proposals are due by January 24, 2025.
The theme of this year's Synod is inspired by Luke 5:4: “When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.’” Rev. Josh Baird commented on this theme saying it "invites exploration of Jesus’ instruction to put out ‘into the deep,’ a source of life and sustenance which may be marked by mystery, risk, and reward."
This will be the last biennial gathering before moving to a triennial schedule starting with the 36th General Synod in 2028. Moderator Rev. Rushan Sinnaduray and Assistant Moderator Jean Avison will lead business sessions where delegates will make significant decisions including electing Associate General Ministers.
The Kansas Oklahoma and Missouri Mid-South Conferences are co-sponsoring this event. David Anderson noted that "12 potential resolutions have been submitted" but some submitters might choose alternative routes. Kevin Peterson added that they ensure resolutions comply with rules and polity so they are well-prepared through each review stage.
