At approximately 2:57 p.m. on Thursday, December 12th, the Beecher Fire Protection District and automatic aid responded to a structure fire at 1220 S. Dixie Hwy. The first crews arrived within five minutes and reported heavy fire from a one-story residential structure. A full still was activated for additional personnel and equipment.
The initial fire company launched an aggressive interior attack and searched for occupants. Crews faced delays in establishing a water supply due to four inoperable hydrants along Dixie Hwy between Church Rd and Chestnut Lane. The incident was upgraded to the MABAS Box Alarm, bringing in tenders for water supply assistance.
Over 38 firefighters were on the scene with seven engines, four tenders, three trucks, and six chiefs from various agencies. The fire was controlled within 60 minutes, but crews remained for extensive overhaul due to building design and construction complexities. No civilian or firefighter injuries occurred; however, a police officer was treated on-site for smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by Beecher Fire Protection District Fire Investigators.
