Franciscan Health is set to launch a virtual diabetes prevention program starting Tuesday, April 8. The initiative aims to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes by following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The program targets adults with prediabetes, a condition affecting more than one in three adults, often unknowingly. Without intervention, prediabetes can progress to type 2 diabetes. The Franciscan Health Diabetes Prevention Program incorporates lifestyle changes to combat this progression.

Participants will engage in weekly group sessions over 16 weeks, followed by six monthly follow-up meetings. A certified healthy lifestyle coach will assist participants in weight loss, increased physical activity, stress reduction, and confidence building.

Eligibility is limited to individuals aged 18 and older diagnosed with prediabetes. Those previously diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes are not eligible. Participants must have a body mass index greater than 25 or a history of gestational diabetes or high-risk screening results for type 2 diabetes.

The year-long program is priced at $99. Registration is mandatory due to limited space. Interested individuals must complete the DPP Qualifying Questionnaire online. For further inquiries about the program, potential participants are encouraged to register for a Virtual Q&A Session.
