Since opening in March 2024, the Franciscan Health Cancer Center Lafayette has seen significant growth, adding new staff and expanding its patient services. In its first year, the center treated nearly 4,000 new patients and provided over 12,000 treatments.
Maria Vought, director of the oncology service line for Franciscan Health in Western Indiana, remarked, “The last year has been transformative for our oncology services. With the opening of the new cancer center, we have expanded access and are now serving more community members with comprehensive, multidisciplinary care in one location."
The cancer center's breast center has delivered over 15,000 screenings and diagnostic services, contributing to early detection efforts in the Lafayette area. Terry Wilson, Franciscan Health Western Indiana president and CEO, noted the center as a "testament to Franciscan’s dedication to the community."
The center welcomed several new healthcare professionals, including Dr. Costantine Albany, Dr. Constance Rayhrer, nurse practitioners Rebecca Cutchin and Laura Feller, as well as Danielle Hohman, a certified genetic counselor. Vought highlighted the importance of these additions, stating, “Adding providers has been essential in meeting the needs of our growing patient population."
Danielle Hohman's role as a genetic counselor has been particularly impactful. According to Vought, “Genetic counseling plays a vital role in identifying hereditary cancer risks...helping to shape long-term health outcomes through education and targeted interventions.”
Funded by donors and the local community, the center continues to focus on expanding its services, improving care coordination, and increasing access to essential medical professionals.
Local resident Annette Eichholz praised the center's support, saying, “It is such a blessing for the community to have the new cancer center.”
