When a group of United Church of Christ and interfaith clergy gathered in Memphis on January 20, they shared their commitment to love, justice, and inclusion. The event, titled "For Such a Time as This," featured various speakers from local, national, and international faith organizations.
Video highlights from the event are now available. These videos capture the music and words of speakers representing multiple religious traditions. One notable speech was given by United Church of Christ General Minister and President Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson.
In her 15-minute video, Rev. Thompson addressed harmful narratives from the January 20 presidential inauguration and urged for inclusive visions for the future. She stated, “An inclusive vision is one that pays attention to who is left out, to those whose rights are being trampled, and provides the advocacy and solidarity needed to bring about changes that provide civil and human rights."
Additional shorter videos are accessible through UCC social media platforms. These include Rev. Thompson's call to address prevailing issues and her reading of her poem "Complicit." The poem emphasizes the need for active voices: “The world needs your voice to speak, while others weep. Silence is for those who sleep.”
Churches, faith groups, and individuals are encouraged to view and share these videos.
